The Olde English Bulldogge has a medium build with a stocky muscular body and a large powerful head. They are courageous, loyal, and athletic dogs and they maintain very good health. The Olde English Bulldogge is free of any breathing problems and can enjoy outdoor activity, with the exception of extreme heat or cold. They have very stable temperaments and they make wonderful companions. They are easily trained and enjoy pleasing their owners. The Olde English Bulldogge lifespan is between 10 and 14 years.
The perfect Olde English Bulldogge should be of medium height to large size with a large head and a very stout, muscular body. The disposition should be outgoing, loyal and courageous.
The temperament is to be very stable and trustworthy. Most importantly the Olde English Bulldogge is a healthy dog without many of the problems affecting the modern English Bulldoggs. Males should be free breeders and females should be free whelpers. The Olde English Bulldogge should be devoid of all breathing problems.
Olde English Bulldogge Males high 18 to 20 inches at the shoulder, Females - 17 to 19 inches at the shoulder. Weight Females should weigh between 50 to 70 lbs and Males should weigh between 65 to 85 lbs. Although height and weight above the standard is to be discouraged, there is no penalty as long as the dog is well proportioned, and otherwise correct and balanced. Olde English Bulldogge temperament is disposition should be outgoing and happy.
Olde English Bulldogge at the discretion of the UBKC Judge, hygiene can be faulted. Any person showing a dog in the ring that appears to be in a poor hygiene condition can be faulted. (Hygiene areas include: bathing and overall coat appearance, nails trimmed, ears clean and dental care). No dog shall have a wet coat of hair due to any oils or conditioners being applied onto the dog to enhance coat shine or mask odor, prior to entering the show ring. Anything applied must be dry or the judge may fault a dog if the coat is wet to touch upon confirmation examination.
Olde English Bulldogge head is Should be large and high, moderately sunken between the eyes (medial furrow). The circumference of the head should be equal to or greater than the dog's height at the shoulder. Fault - A narrow head or one that appears too small for the body. Ears: Rose prick ears set well on the sides of the head are preferred. Ears that drop are acceptable as long they are small and not “hound like”. Serious Fault - Ears that stand fully pricked up on top of the head.
Muzzle: Should be broad, deep and short with moderate wrinkling. The bite is undershot with the bottom jaw turning up noticeably; however the lower canines should not protrude. Disqualifying Faults - Wry jaw; a muzzle longer than 3”; a muzzle shorter than 1 ½”; scissor bites and even bites. Eyes: Should be wide apart and moderate in size. Any color is acceptable. Fault - mismatched eyes (one dark, one blue or light).
Serious Faults - Misshapen or bugged eyes. Lacking pigment around the eyes is undesirable.
Disqualifying Fault - Crossed eyes or non-symmetrically shaped eyes. Nose: Should be broad with open nostrils showing no sign of air restriction. The nose should not be pushed up between the eyes. There must be at least 1 ½” from the stop to the end of the nose. The nose should be solid in color.
Olde English Bulldogge Neck is Short to medium in length and very muscular flowing into the shoulders. It should not be set on the dog so it appears to stop at the shoulders.
Olde English Bulldogge Chest is ribs should be well sprung and the chest wide and deep. The depth of chest should be at least to the elbows. Serious Fault - A hollow or narrow chest (slab sided).
Olde English Bulldogge Back is Males should have a square and balanced appearance. Females should look similar with consideration given for body length. A short back with a slight rise from the shoulders to a slight drop in the croup is preferred. A level back is acceptable as long as the tail does not come straight off the top of the back.
Olde English Bulldogge Forequarters is shoulders should be well laid back with significant angulations to allow for good movement. Fault - Straight shoulders. FORELEGS - Should have significant bone substance and be straight and wide apart, neither bowing out nor turning in. The elbows should be relatively close to the body. Lacking bone and substance is very undesirable. Serious Fault - “Easty Westy” forelegs. Disqualifying Fault - Elbows that are loose or “fiddle fronts”.
Olde English Bulldogge Movement is Should have a balanced gait that drives off the rear and is complimented by reach allowing the dog to cover ground with a sense of power. Dogs should single track. Serious Fault - Pacing or crabbing.
Olde English Bulldogge Tail is a pump handle tail that naturally reaches the hock is preferred, however, screwed; short or docked tails are acceptable. The pump handle tail should have a low tail set and not be carried over the back of the dog.
