The Borzoi, also known as the Russian Wolfhound, was developed as a sight hound in Russia to course and to kill wolves. The Borzoi became a status symbol for the nobility and the rich. A Giant breed with an average height of 28 to 32 inches and weighs 80 – 110 pounds. He has small ears, head is slightly domed, long narrow roman nosed, with impressive jaws. He has a deep chest, narrow body, elegant flowing coat in any color or combination of colors usually with white.

In the house they are laid back and easygoing. A Borzoi has such beauty and elegance and yet, loving on their own terms. Their huge! Counter surfing is literally a piece of cake. Their height allows them to easily reach counters and tables. They take up a lot of space with their body size. Borzoi’s are a little high strung and can snap without notice, especially when being taunted. This can be dangerous due to its size.


They are okay with children they are raised with, but will snap at noisy boisterous children. This dog would do better with children over 12. Inside they are quiet. Outside, if not leashed, may slip away from their owner. With his long legs a Borzoi needs a large area to run! They are prone to Bloat, leg fractures and are sensitive to many medications. Buying from a reputable breeder is always advisable and will help to lessen the chances for health problems and congenital defects.
